My Mom

My mom is the creator behind all these products, and I welcome the opportunity to share her story with you.  She was born in Korea just after the Korean War (1950s). Korea was a very different place than the bustling metropolis that it is today. As a child, she was frequently sick to the point where she would faint on the bus on a near daily basis and had to miss a year of school from the severity of her weakness. Given modern medicine was not readily available at the time, my grandmother had to rely on Chinese herbal tradition to manage her condition.  To this day, her condition is not known.

Unlike modern medicine, herbal treatments required several weeks to months and with the right combination in order to provide long-lasting, effective results.  Sure enough, she recovered and then some.  She frequently credits my grandmother’s ability to understand the different effects of each ingredient and with knowing that real recovery takes time.  Over time, her strength not only recovered but eventually exceeded that of her classmates, even have the energy to outpace all the men in mountain races in college.  To this day, as she approaches 70, despite the immense hurdles she faced in her life, I can assure you that she still has more energy than I ever had.

As she becomes older and wiser, she has spent more of her time cultivating what she calls “the Garden of Eden on Earth" through tending to her plants as if they were her own children, some of which end up in our hyoso formulation.

She credits two main sources for her creation: fermentation and the right mix of herbs for both the skin and nourishment.  At first, as someone who studied finance and didn’t care about “all-natural” at the time, I was a little annoyed by her persistence how great what she made was every time she made something new.  I had a really bad case of acne because I loved popping my pimples, and after buying an endless amount of topical creams, I decided to give my mom's soap and serums a try.  It was free at first, so why not?  Then, things changed over the next few months.  I realized during the winters, my skin wasn't as dry and my acne pretty much faded away (unless I didn't shower for a couple days) and it didn't feel "abrasive" or itchy, especially when the air was dry.  That was five years ago.  Now, I ask her for everything, including her herbal enzyme drinks.  I use her stuff everyday, and given English is not her first language, I wanted to help share her gift to the world because I truly believe in what she has created.  She believes in the beauty of nature, and over the years, she has made me appreciate these gifts this Earth has given us.
